Shelters (Melambiano Kalogerou)
Shelters (Melambiano Kalogerou)
Exploring the northern foothills of Psiloritis, you can spot ruins of old settlements near the settlement of Kalogeros, at the Melambiano location. That is, small buildings that were used as cheese-making areas or as seasonal lodgings for shepherds. These were built entirely of stone without any binding material and like most, were circular buildings covered with a vaulted roof, which unfortunately, does not exist today. Their construction, similar to that found in the Minoan tombs, proves that the shelters continue an architectural tradition on the island, the beginnings of which are lost in the depths of the centuries.
