Holy Church of Genesis and Zoodochos Pigi – Panagia Anasouvariani
Holy Church of Genesis and Zoodochos Pigi – Panagia Anasouvariani
Anasouvari is mentioned in 1577 in the Amari Province in the Castello Amari and was called Upper Syvritos however; it is not mentioned in the latest censuses. It is considered today as an uninhabited ruined settlement of the Apostoloi community. The church of the settlement of Zoodochos Pigi is preserved. The chapel is located in a wonderful location with a view and greenery, about 2 km north of the village of Apostoloi. The small temple took its name from the Anasouvari settlement that existed there until the 18th century and was abandoned since then. Two ruined, late Byzantine churches dedicated to Agios Georgios and Agios Ioannis, which are built near Panagia Anasouvariani, are preserved today from this settlement and are worth a visit. They can be found by following the special markings.
Leaving the church towards Rethymnon, you will find a landscaped sitting area a few meters away where you can enjoy moments of relaxation in nature.
