Holy Church of Agios Antonios (Mesonisia)

Holy Church of Agios Antonios (Mesonisia)

The small Holy Church can be found above the main road at the eastern exit of the village of Mesonisia. It dates back to the Venetian period and is a single-aisled church with a gabled plastered roof without discernible frescoes. In the windows of the church’s openings, the effects of the Gothic style can be detected. Also, there is a carved wooden iconostasis and portable icons from the 18th and 19th centuries inside the church, while on the floor, three tombs were found during the maintenance period of the church. These tombs probably belonged to monks of the abandoned monastery that is located to the east, the ruins of which are also to the west of it.
