Based on books included in the archive of the Holy Church, we receive the information that the construction of the Church began on March 25, 1865, by Ilias Moshakis from Meronas village and the inauguration took place on November 3, 1873. In the place of the central column of the current Church was, according to oral tradition, the Holy Altar of an earlier smaller Temple dedicated to Saint George. Around the perimeter of the old Church, i.e. in the area of the current Church, there was the cemetery of the settlement back then. In 1995, it was elevated to a cathedral of the Holy Metropolis of Lampi Syvritou and Sfakion.
