Drygies is located in the heart of Amari, between the villages of Vryses and Ano Meros. This small settlement with today’s few inhabitants seems to have a centuries-old history. Its name comes from the many oak trees (drygies) that existed in the area. Venetian censuses confirm the existence of the village in the 16th century A.D. During the German Occupation, Drygies was razed by the Nazis, but after the end of the war, the inhabitants rebuilt the settlement on the ruins of the war.

The beautiful Smiliano Gorge with its impressive waterfalls and Platys Potamos, a location of special natural beauty, are both situated close to the village. Furthermore, in the wider area of the settlement, there are scattered small chapels that can be visited.
